Dalit man succumbs to injuries after being beaten up by upper caste man

Chandigarh: In a shocking incident, a group of persons belonging to an influential family, allegedly thrashed a dalit man and took away his bike in Bahadurgarh area of Jhajjar district. The victim, Dhani Ram, later succumbed to injuries.

The incident took place on June 16 when the victim was thrashed by a group of men of his own village. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and was later referred to PGIMS Rohtak. Dhani Ram died on Saturday night.

SSP Jhajjar Ashok Kumar said a case of snatching was registered on June 16, but after the death of victim, charges of murder had been added. "Besides, charges related to violation of SC and ST Act, too, will be added after investigations," added Kumar.
According to information, Dhani Ram was a security guard of a private company in Bahadurgarh. On June 16, while he was returning home after duty, one Shamsher Singh, a resident of Dhani Ram's village and who belonged to upper caste, stopped him. This led to an altercation between the two. Shamsher, who was accompanied by some other men, thrashed Dhani Ram and threw him on the roadside.
Surender Singh, SHO of Machhroli police station, said: "Some passers by noticed the victim and rushed him to a hospital. His family was duly informed. As his condition deteriorated, Dhani Ram was rushed to PGIMS Rohtak. He got discharged on Friday but developed some complications on Satutrday night. His family members took him to hospital where he succumbed to injuries."
"We have sought opinion of doctors as the autopsy has been conducted. Police parties have conducted raids to arrest Shamsher Singh," added SHO.
